The Leben CS-300XS is a compact EL84 vacuum-tube integrated amplifier delivering 15 watts per channel. Its self-biasing circuit uses four Sovtek EL84 output tubes and two Sovtek 12AX7A input and driver tubes, with selectable 4-, 6- and 8-ohm speaker outputs.

Five line inputs and a tape-monitor circuit are complemented by a front-panel headphone output, speaker/headphone selector, balance control and three-position bass boost. Natural Canadian white-ash side panels complete its compact, traditional Leben design.

Handmade in Japan: Leben products are handmade in Japan by experienced craftspeople using carefully selected components and point-to-point wiring.

Why I love it

I own the CS-300XS, and right now it’s my favourite integrated amplifier. Don’t let its 15 watts per channel put you off. I’ve been surprised by how comfortably it handles speakers you might not expect, though thoughtful matching still matters. The sound is beautifully balanced and wonderfully sweet, and I find the bass boost genuinely useful when listening at lower volumes. It’s gorgeous to look at, feels exceptionally well constructed and is simply a joy to use.
