The QUAD 303 is a Class AB power amplifier that revisits the company's classic triples-output-stage design with updated internal components and a custom 200 VA toroidal transformer. It provides 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms or 70 watts per channel into 4 ohms in stereo operation.

A rear-panel selector allows the amplifier to operate in bridged mode, increasing output to 140 watts into 8 ohms or 170 watts into 4 ohms for use as a monoblock. Both RCA and balanced XLR inputs are provided, along with 12-volt trigger connections for coordinated system control. Its compact chassis is designed to pair directly with the QUAD 33 preamplifier.

Why I love it

Paired with the 33, the 303 delivers the combination I love: great control of the bass, lovely detail up top and a satisfying fullness to the sound. In my experience, the pairing works exceptionally well with Wharfedale speakers. The classic styling is another draw, as is the ability to grow with your system—you can add a second 303 for bridged mono operation if you need more power down the road.
