The Rega Fono MM MK5 is a dedicated phono preamplifier for moving-magnet cartridges. It provides 41.4 dB of gain at 1 kHz and presents the cartridge with a 47 kΩ and 100 pF input load before sending a line-level signal to an amplifier.

Its RIAA equalization is divided into two stages to reduce interaction between the equalization circuits. Polyester capacitors are used in the signal path and polypropylene capacitors in the RIAA sections, all housed in an aluminium case and powered by Rega’s external PS1 supply.
