The Rega Planar 3 is a belt-drive turntable centred on the RB330 precision tonearm, a 12 mm Optiwhite glass platter and Rega’s double-brace plinth construction. Its lightweight plinth is reinforced between the tonearm mounting and main bearing, where additional rigidity is most useful.

A 24-volt low-noise motor and Advanced EBLT belt drive the platter. Select your finish and choose no cartridge or a factory-fitted Nd3 or Nd5 moving-magnet cartridge from the available options. A compatible phono stage is required. The optional Neo turntable power supply is sold separately.

My Take

Few turntables make such a convincing long-term starting point. The Planar 3 is accomplished in its standard form, but it also rewards careful cartridge and power-supply upgrades instead of making the owner replace the whole deck. That combination of clarity, longevity and sensible upgrade potential is exactly what we want from a turntable at the centre of a serious record collection.
