The Rega Planar 3 RS Edition develops the Planar 3 platform around a dark brushed-metal aluminium HPL laminated plinth, reinforced by Rega’s double-brace construction. It is supplied with the hand-assembled RB330 tonearm and a factory-fitted Nd5 moving-magnet cartridge.

Its 24-volt motor is hand tuned to the included Neo MK2 power supply and drives the 12 mm Optiwhite glass platter through a custom CNC-machined pulley and Reference EBLT belt. This Brushed Metal configuration includes the Nd5 cartridge and Neo MK2 power supply. A moving-magnet phono input or separate MM phono stage is required.

Why I love it

The Planar 3 is already a turntable I think many people could happily enjoy for years. The RS Edition takes that foundation further with a more rigid aluminium-skinned plinth, a factory-fitted Nd5 cartridge and the Neo MK2 external power supply. I particularly appreciate the convenience of switching between 33⅓ and 45 rpm at the touch of a button. Together, these upgrades make a compelling package, and to my ears, an excellent-sounding turntable that punches well above its price.
