The Rega Planar 8 is a skeletal belt-drive turntable designed around a low-mass, high-rigidity plinth and the hand-assembled RB880 tonearm. A one-piece machined aluminium sub-platter and a triple-layer laminated glass platter concentrate rotational mass toward the outer rim while keeping the centre light.

Its 24-volt synchronous motor is hand-tuned to the supplied Neo MK2 power supply, which provides electronic speed selection and fine adjustment. Select your finish and choose no cartridge or a factory-fitted Nd7, Nd9, Ania Pro or Apheta 3 cartridge from the available configurations. A compatible phono stage is required: MM for the Nd cartridges or MC for Ania Pro and Apheta 3.

Why I love it

Having owned the Planar 8, I can say its sense of pace and rhythm is what really won me over. It makes music feel alive and engaging. I love its lightweight, rigid construction and how straightforward it is to set up and use. It’s a real joy to live with, and the distinctive design is just as enjoyable to look at.
