The Sugden Sapphire DAP-800 combines an analogue preamplifier and a non-oversampling digital-to-analogue converter in one chassis. Independent power supplies serve the analogue and digital sections, while the analogue stage uses Sugden's VCV circuit and a Class A output stage.

Analogue connectivity includes four line inputs, balanced input and bypass. Three coaxial, two optical and one USB-B digital input feed the DAC, with two single-ended and one balanced output available.
